Most keys for entrance doors have no security card. A key can be copied by unauthorised people. People refer to these as „Illegal keys“ (8 MB), i.e. other key users (e.g. previous tenants, previous residents, etc.) can still be in possession of a spare key.

The solution is to change the door cylinder and use a cylinder with a security card. Spare keys are made directly at ABUS only upon presentation of the security card. As only the company itself has the blanks and the necessary machinery, you can be certain that your key will not fall into the wrong hands.

Here’s a tip: profile cylinders with an emergency and danger function can also be locked if the key is already inserted on the inside, e.g. ABUS XP 1 or EP 10.

Have you completely lost your keys? Some ABUS keys have their own key numbers that can be used when re-ordering. Keep a note of these numbers. Have you mislaid them? Unfortunately there’s nothing else for it but to replace the complete cylinder or, with two-wheeler locks or padlocks for instance, replace the complete product.
