Besides the mechanical security of locks achieved
by constructive diligence and a suitable selection of materials,
the cylinder is quite literally the ‘key element’. Three
things are important here: user-friendliness, reliability and a
high level of security against manipulation. That is what the ABUS
Plus Cylinder was designed for. It is used in our high-quality two-wheeler
locks and padlocks.
The ABUS Plus Cylinder is a disc cylinder whereby a stack of different
discs is rotated when the key is turned. How far the key turns depends
on the indentations in the key. If the discs are not correctly sequenced,
a pin blocks the rotation of the cylinder and with it the opening
of the lock. The right key on the other hand turns all the discs
into the right position, and the blocking pin releases the cylinder
for turning. The lock can be opened.
A certain amount of know-how is required to develop and produce
a quality cylinder with up to 1,000,000 key variations. ABUS Plus
Cylinders ensure that the discs do not rotate against one another
and that the key can be easily inserted. The materials are matched
in such a way that the cylinder works reliably even when damp or
with frequent use.
The very latest product of the development laboratory is the X-Plus
Cylinder, which features improved ease of operation. The patented
mechanism prevents the key being turned before being fully inserted
into the cylinder. The closing feeling this produces is like that
of a front door.
Even a precision component like this needs regular maintenance.
We recommend the use of a non-greasy and non-resinous oil.
